Thread: Status of the SXcreations Community |

I have been using Lightray 3D since the Mohaa days. Some of you know me, some of you don't.
I know it’s been a long time since Prom has posted anything; I have faith in him, and this project, ever since the beginning.
I even created the application icons, you all see and use today because I wanted to show Prom, how much I appreciate his work.
Let’s help each other as much as possible till the release and show Prom how important this community is to us.
So what is everyone is currently working on?
A mod?
A Standalone?
What games are you modding? Or what engine are you using for your standalone?
Need help?
Currently, I am working on a mod using the Source game engine (gave up on unity for now).
So, Whats going on?

Thread: 1.5 Torque Exporting Issues |
|
|
I tested Lightray 1.5 on several computers and have figured out the issue with 1.5 and exporting .dts files is video card related. My ATI HD 3600 will not work when exporting .dts files in Lightray 1.4 or 1.5. After putting my Nvidia Geforce 8600GTS back into my computer I was able to export just fine in 1.4 and 1.5. On my laptop, which has a Quadro NVS 120M, I was also able to export in 1.4 and 1.5.
Sounds like an ATI OpenGL Driver issue to me
Also, I was trying to export my player model to a .dts and 1.5 was crashing. I changed the Geometry setting from Triangle Strips to triangles and the model exported correctly. Simple shapes like a box etc export fine with the Triangle Strips setting.

I finally took the plunge and am fully testing the features of 1.5. I really like the changes and I can't wait for the next release. One bug I am having issues with is that I can't export .dts or .dsq files. Are there any plans for fixing this?
Thanks!
I have attached my log file.

Thread: Torque Death Animations |
|
|
Progress - Added the following to my death animation sequence and is now playing in game:
Before
//3)death1
tseq: death1 first:44 last:66 fps:10 loop:0 export:1
After
//3)dead1
tseq: death1 first:44 last:66 fps:10 loop:0 export:1 blend:0 incscale:0 ground:1 gndsamples: 2
All my other animations worked perfectly because the player was standing still. Since my death animation moves the player backward I had to put entries in for the ground node (ground:1) and ground sample frames from my animation (gndsamples: 2)
Sorry to be a pest... been trying to get this to work for weeks.

Bump: Still waiting for some assistance. I have tried everything. At this time I have resorted to exporting to milkshape for the exporting of .dsq files because lightray isn't working.
here's what I put in the scene info:
//1)root
tseq: root first:0 last:20 fps:20 loop:1 export:1
//2)run
tseq: run first:21 last:33 fps:20 export:1
//4)death1
tseq: death1 first:34 last:58 fps:20 export:1
Do I need to put the ground node info?

Has anyone been able to get Death Animations to export from Lighray 3D and work in Torque? I am working on a class project and have hit my first snag. What might I be doing wrong?
P.S.
Prom, awesome job on all the biped stuff... it's a 3D animators dream come true.
Edit: It doesn't appear the ground_Node is exporting... am I mising something. This could be why I am having crashing issues in the ShowTool.
Importing your test player into the ShowTool it is also missing the ground_Node. I tested exporting my player from Milkshape and the ground_Node is present in the ShowTool.

I hate to be the problem child (I seem to always have graphic issues) but this one seems to be a continual (maybe not) Lightray3D glitch. I thought before this was just my crappy integrated Intel graphics issue with my old laptop (Winxp and Vista), but now at home using a Nvidia Quadro FX 1400 I get these darn repetative lines (using Vista).

example of what I am working on, 971 polys, and made 100% in Lightray3D w00t!
What is Lightray's required or recommended video card, OS etc that you currently support. I have the most recent Directx 9 web installer (quick hack to get Directx 9 appz and games to work in Vista) but still get the lines. I have also updated to the most recent drivers (Nvidia Quadro Feb 20th) for my video card... same result. I would love to just turn off video accleration (like I did for my crappy intel graphics card in my old lappie) but that isn't a solution to the problem this time because Vista relies so heavily on video perfomance? I am about to install Windows Xp on my second drive because I am really working hard on a game (think this is my tenth startup) and I don't want to slow my progress because I am being lame and installied Vista ahead of being supported by you (did I anwser my own question... go back to XP?).
Sincerely,
Col Sanders

Thread: .act or .bdy support |

Yes it is, but I don't have $50 to spend on the upgrade after already spending $100 on TGE and $100 on TSE. I am going to try free solutions until I have proven to myself I can acutally make a game.

Thread: Which step I did wrong? |
|

I am going to test this and see what I come up with. I haven't exported weapons to Torque yet (only static objects) so this will be a good learning lesson. I'll let you know what I find, can someone more up to speed on the process give it a shot as well so we can compare notes?

Prom,
I am bouncing from game engine to game engine
can't find a good home. Currently I am playing with Reality Factory which is really fun & free. Though Torque is fun and cheap I am waiting for version 1.5 to be released before I go back, till then Reality Factory looks like my best bet to get a cool lookin quake2/3 style FPS finished quickly with scripting only. Since there isn't currently support for .act or .bdy files in Lightray 3D (which is fine) I will continue to export .ms3d files and import into milkshape accordingly though as you know using one application for all your modeling and exporting needs is the best way to go. This is the Wishlist part of the forum, so wish I may, wish I might
Thanks for everything!

Thread: Will LR3D import .max file? |

Lightray does not import .max but you can export .3ds out of 3ds max and import it no problem. Hope that helps!

Thread: Bump Maps & Lightray |

Prom,
Got any info you can share about how to use bump maps? I am trying to use Nvidia Melody for the first time and I am not able to import the .dds files into Lightray that Melody creates.
Any help would be great, or maybe a tutorial?

Thread: Intel Integrated Graphics + Lightray |

Thanks for the quick reply... I try your fix with my work laptop. Things work perfectly at home with my nvidia. Next lappie I get will be a mac with winxp installed... should have no trouble there.
UPDATE:
Turned Hardware Acceleration to "none" and it works great!
Once again I can 3D model while waiting for people to make me work.

Thread: Intel Integrated Graphics + Lightray |
|

Prom,
Heres the problem, whenever I get a new laptop at work they always seem to spend money on the cpu side but not the video side leaving me stuck with intel 945G integrated graphics. This means, 3d modeling in Lightray is almost impossible, though most other 3d application work pretty well. I updated my drivers today and still get tons and tons of artifacts when trying to create faces.

What do I need to do to get Lightray 1.4 running better on my lappie, or should I just what till I get home and run it on my desktop with an pci-e nvidia 6800gt?
Sincerely,
Col. Sanders
