I guess that, as there has been no word from Prometheus now for many months, that either something has happened to him or that life's other worries have taken precedence. Pity really, I thought that I was on a winner. Oh well.................................sigh

RE: md3 tag crashes LR 1.4.0 07-01-2009 22:22 Forum: Bug Reports

I can confirm that the model does crash Lightray. Fragmotion imported the model OK so I exported it as a .md2 and Lightray imported the .md2 OK.
I then exported as a .md3 from Lightray and Lightray imported this mesh OK.
Maybe something that Lihtray does not recognise in the original .md3
I know that I can usually crash Lightray if I try to import a hi poly mesh (format does not seem to matter)
The original model also crashed Lightray 1.5beta.
Sorry can't help any more than that

I have noticed this same post on other forums. It is a pity you feel you must conduct blatant advertising (for I assume your products) on forums.

I asked the same question and was told that the next version will be out in a while. I think that we shall just have to be patient and work on modelling skills whilst waiting.

RE: Import files 10-07-2008 12:08 Forum: Tutorials / Help / Questions

I tried this out. I downloaded a lightwave6.5 model from the net and tried to import it into Lightray 1.5 beta. Yep it just crashed no reason. I then tried importing it into version 1.4 and again crashed with an assertion error and a message about VC++ runtime terminating unusually. I imported the model into Blender 3d and exported it as a new lightwave file. The new file imported into Lightray 1.5 beta OK. Yes it had a mixture of lower and upper case characters in its name. The crashes must be occuring becase of the file itself not how it is named. (Windows file names are generally case insensitive as the system is built over the old MS-DOS. Mac and Unix file names are case sensitive.
Don't know if this helps or not but I did check it out.

1.5 Beta smd import 06-28-2008 03:25 Forum: Bug Reports

I tried importing a .smd file into LR3D 1.5 Beta. I imported the skeleton and triangles however the bones seem to be on the ground plane only not inside the mesh. Same thing happens when I import a file containing only a skeleton and an animation. I tried importing the same files in V1.4 and this worked ok.

In V1.4 I imported a .smd that contained only a skeleton and animation. I picked the root bone (Biped01) and then Biped in the modify panel . I then go Modify, Save, fill out the filename.bpd and then does not matter what I select in the next dialog the exporter crashes and LR3D quits - without saving anything. The smd I have is in two separate files - a mesh file and an animation file. I wish to get them together in LR3d but can see no way of importing the animation once I have imported the mesh.
If I do import the animation it comes in as a separate object not related to the mesh. Am I mssing something fundamental here?
Thanks

OK a bit further checking. What i was trying for is a render of scenery a player would see whilst standing on the terrain. I positioned the view low down above the terrain and the bottom of the view probably intersected the base grid. I moved the view so that the camera position was higher above the terrain and eventually the whole view rendered porperly. So could it be a view checking error? Note that the actual view camera was not below the terrain model.
Hope this helps

Rendering 1.5 06-10-2008 09:59 Forum: Bug Reports

Hi, I have been mucking about with the rendering in 1.5 beta. I get some errors sometimes in the render as shown in the attached pix.

This shows the render frame in the perspective view

and this the output saved from the renderer.

The error seems to be inconsistent but once the cutoff (at the top of the render) is established I don't seem to be able to get rid of it. If I change the view completely it may render properly. I also note that sometimes there is a lighter band rendered at the bottom of the render.
Could be something I am doing wrong I suppose - but I don't know what.
Thanks

OK played with this a bit more. It seems to have something to do with extruding the spline. What I did
1. Set grid size to 10 in all viewports
2. Turn on snap
3. Create a line shape in the left viewport in shape of stairs
4. Edit the spline and perform an extrude.
5 Delete the line
6. Render the scene (no material applied to mesh) black area appears on one step of the mesh in the render.

How I fixed it
7. Edit the mesh
8. Select all the faces in the mesh
9. Click "Auto Smooth" - Nothing seems to have changed
10. Render the scene (no material applied) black area has disappeared !!

Also tried this with a rectangle extuded to make a cube - same thing dark marks on rendered surface until auto smooth is applied.

Hope this helps you in some way
Thanks

Hi,
After playing a bit with texture and lights I decided that it was probably the mesh causing the dark marks (shadows?). I deleted the triangles of the top step and added them back by two different methods
1. Edit cap holes
and
2. by manually adding the faces
When rendered the dark mark was gone!
The mesh was originally made by adding a line primitive in the left view and then extruding this line to create the mesh.
Small graphical bug
I noted elastic band artifacts when manually adding the face in the perspective view and using the viewport pan, zoom and rotation controls. The artifact disappeared as soon as the mouse was moved a bit further from the buttons - redraw problem??
Will keep trying to learn the software.
Thanks

Rendering Bug? V1.5 05-11-2008 23:05 Forum: Bug Reports

Noted a small bug while rendering. If you save the render to a file and then on next render untick the save box ( but leave the file name in the text field) LR still pops up a requester asking for compression options. New render is not saved though. Maybe compression dialog should not pop up.
Also

Hope the images worked
I applied a texture map to some steps and they show OK in the editor but when I render I get a black mark across the top step. Changing lights did not seem to alter this mark and it is not in the texture. I moved the UVs for the top step but still no change. Bug or am I doing something wrong?

And perhaps a small request. Could the render preview window be made larger please?? OR the saved render file "pop up" when finished without having to find it in windows explorer.
Thanks
Matthew
